Dr. Malitz was born in the Midwest, graduated in the top 3 per cent of his class from the University of Michigan where he graduated in 3 1/2 years. He did Stem Cell Cancer research at the Michigan Cancer Foundation until he started medical school. He was one of very few out of state residents selected for admission to the top-ranked UCLA School of Medicine. During medical school, Dr. Malitz did Ophthalmic research at the Jules Stein Eye Institute and was trained for the research at Stanford. Prior to his formal Ophthalmic education, he studied Internal Medicine at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles. He returned to his birth city, Chicago to receive his Ophthalmology training at the top-ranked UIC Eye Center in Chicago, IL. After completing his training, he practiced in San Pedro, California initially and then returned to the Midwest to become the medical director of the Ohio Valley Eye Institute in Evansville, Indiana. Fifteen years ago he was selected to transition the Buzard Eye Institute which he renamed the Southwest Eye Institute. He is recognized by his colleagues as providing the highest quality comprehensive care. He participates in teaching programs with medical students from Indiana University and UAG Medical Schools and offers a comprehensive array of services with a special focus on vision correction surgery (LASIK, PRK, ICL and C-Lex (clear lens exchange), and advanced technology cataract surgery). He also has extensive training and expertise in glaucoma treatment (laser procedures and minimally invasive glaucoma implants) and cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery.
